Disciplined Services voting under way
Voting by members of the Disciplined Services is under way all across the country in what is a prelude to general voting on September 1st.
Police officers across Region Two were among the first to cast their ballots.
Essequibo servicemen turned out at various polling stations, ensuring that their duties to serve and protect will not interfere with their right to vote. Regional Commander Khemraj Shivbaran confirmed that officers were excused from duties to participate, with 402 disciplined service members expected to vote in the region.
Voting was conducted at key locations, including the Charity, Suddie and Anna Regina Police Stations. While there was no line at Suddie, Anna Regina saw small queues during the morning hours, which eased as the day went on. Officers described the process as straightforward and stress-free.
“The process was calm, and it was easy. I am glad I voted,” one rank shared, a sentiment echoed by several others who highlighted the smoothness of the exercise.
Commander Shivbaran praised the discipline and commitment of the officers, noting that their early participation sets an important example for the wider electorate. “The ranks were very willing and eager to cast their ballots. They turned out early and did their part,” he said.
