Venezuelan envoy warns Caribbean at risk amid US military escalation
– says six vessel bombings have killed 27
Venezuelan Ambassador to Guyana Carlos Amador Perez Silva has expressed grave concern that escalating military activity by the United States is endangering the Caribbean region. In an exclusive interview with Stabroek News yesterday, he highlighted the series of attacks at sea, now totalling six bombings that have left 27 people dead and urged diplomatic solutions to avert a wider catastrophe.
“We believe that this is a serious situation and a serious threat not only to Venezuela but to the Caribbean and to the stability of the region,” Perez Silva told Stabroek News, accusing Washington of running a “disinformation campaign” against Venezuela while simultaneously building up forces near its coast.
“As far as we know, fighter planes, missile destroyers, missile cruisers, assault troops, assets used in special operations and covert missions, and even a submarine with nuclear power,” he said, were part of the buildup. He described it as an “offensive mobilization of more than 10,000 military personnel” around Venezuela. “The US narrative is out of touch,” he added.
