The government has strengthened security in Region One with an over $200 million investment for the reconstructed Imbotero Wharf, a new Police Boathouse, and the rebuilt Imbotero Police Station along the Barima River.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony yesterday, Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond said the investments form part of the Government’s strategy to reinforce law enforcement capacity and protect Guyana’s borders.

“Border communities are not the edges of Guyana, they are the frontline of our sovereignty,” the Minister stated.

The facilities will support expanded river patrols, better monitoring along the Barima River corridor, and faster response to incidents in surrounding communities.
