Prosecution hands over documentation in Mohameds extradition court case
With the prosecution providing a diplomatic note, an authenticated statement from the United States Secretary of State and warrants of arrest for indicted and sanctioned businessmen Azruddin Mohamed and Nazar Mohamed, Magistrate Judy Latchman today adjourned the extradition case to November 24th for further deliberation.
The documentation, according to the prosecution, proves the legitimacy of the extradition request. The prosecutors further told the court that they were still to disclose additional documents and will do so at next hearing including a statement from police officers regarding the warrants for the Mohamed’s arrest.
The father and son duo, who were released on $150,000 bail on the last hearing on October 31st, are represented by their attorneys Siand Dhurjon, Roysdale Forde SC and Darren Wade who were given copies of the documents presented by the prosecutors for review.
With the documents the court will seek to determine whether a prima facie case has been made out for extradition. The documents presented are part of an extradition request in relation to alleged financial crimes.
According to a previous police press release, Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed were arrested by ranks acting under the authority of warrants issued by a Magistrate of the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on October 31st.
The warrants were issued following an application made by State Prosecutors after the filing of an indictment before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Fugitives Offenders Act, Cap. 10:04, as amended by Act No. 10 of 2024.
On October 30, 2025, the Government of Guyana received a formal request for extradition from the Government of the United States of America pursuant to the Extradition Treaty between the United States and the United Kingdom, which extends to and remains in force in Guyana under Section 4(1)(a) of the said Act.
