President Irfaan Ali yesterday commissioned a $920m airstrip at Aishalton in the Rupununi and said that his Government will continue its momentum in infrastructural development to connect the hinterland and will soon issue Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for the financing and construction of at least 35 additional airstrips.
An Office of the President release said that the Head of State made the announcement while delivering remarks at the commissioning ceremony for the 2,500 feet by 50 feet rigid concrete airstrip in the Region Nine community.
The project was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works Special Projects Unit and the Village Council, and provided jobs and skills training for more than 60 local workers.
