The Bureau of Statistics yesterday finally released the Preliminary Results of the Guyana National Population and Housing Census 2022 and said the population on census day was 878,674 and it has projected that the population had grown to 956,044 by the end of 2024.

The report was made public at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. The data shows a population surge of 17.63 percent, alongside a massive construction boom and shifting social dynamics that have redefined the nation’s landscape.

The census, which utilized midnight to 6 am on September 15, 2022, as its reference point, recorded a population count of 878,674. This is an increase of 131,719 persons over the 2012 count of 746,955. Bureau officials further estimate that the population has continued its upward trajectory, reaching 956,044 persons by the end of 2024 after accounting for natural growth and net migration since the census night.
