Man jailed for four years over cocaine at La Grange
Dyal Simon, 52, was today jailed for four years after pleading guilty to having 23 kilogrammes of cocaine in his possession for trafficking.
The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) today said that Simon and Adonayi Hoyte, 40, appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weever at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, to wit, 22.934 kilogrammes of cocaine. Hoyte pleaded not guilty, and bail was granted in the sum of $200,000. However, Simon pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years imprisonment together with a fine of $33,951,000.
An earlier CANU release had said that the interception was made yesterday at La Grange, West Bank Demerara. It said that CANU officers acting on information received carried out an operation in the vicinity of the La Grange Public Road and intercepted a vehicle in which 20 brick-like parcels of cocaine were found.
The suspects were arrested and taken to CANU headquarters.
