WIN blasts Nadir over Mohamed attack
We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) has strongly condemned remarks made by Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir during a live national address on Tuesday,
describing them as defamatory, false and abusive.
In a statement issued shortly after the live broadcast, WIN condemned the remarks directed at its party leader Azruddin Mohamed as “disparaging, abusive, defamatory, false and malicious”.
Mohamed, who has been indicted on 11 counts by a US Grand Jury and is now facing extradition proceedings, is the presumptive Leader of the Opposition. Though parliament met for the first time on November 3rd last year, Nadir is still to summon a meeting of non-government MPs to elect the Leader of the Opposition.
At the end of his address on Tuesday night he announced that the meeting will be held on Monday but he did not provide an explanation for the delay.
It has been surmised that there was an expectation that Mohamed would have been extradited by now but court proceedings are continuing here and are set to resume in early February.
