Almost four years since he was charged, one of the men who was charged in a multi-million dollar gold heist has been freed, while three others have been found guilty and jailed.
Principal Magistrate Allan Wilson earlier this week freed Andray Duncan of the simple larceny of g0ld charge.
Back in September 2022, Duncan along with Bhaloonauth Seegobin, Sabutaro Singh, Bisram Paul, Naime Chjanramm, Deo Kissoon and Daniel Gran were charged with the theft of 1,000 ounces of gold which had been hidden away in a Mahaica house.
The house had been under repairs and it was alleged that those undertaking the repairs had stumbled upon the gold and helped themselves to it.
Some of the gold had been recovered along with some of proceeds from sales. A number of the other suspects were killed mysteriously.
In a release issued by Wilson’s Attorney, Eusi Anderson, he said the Magistrate found three of the accused Bhaloonauth Seegobin, Deo Kissoon and Daniel Grant guilt of the crime They were convicted of the offence and were each sentenced to three years in prison.
The Magistrate found that that there was no evidence to support the charges laid against Andray Duncan.
He explained that outside of the 98 ounces, the remaining sum of gold allegedly stolen was never recovered or never tendered in evidence before the Magistrate.
