Guyana committed to expanding economic partnership with U.S. – Finance Minister – INews Guyana

Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh led a Guyanese delegation at the U.S.-Guyana Investment Enabling Forum held recently in Washington DC

Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, recently attended the U.S.-Guyana Investment Enabling Forum, hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), in partnership with the United States Department of State, at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, DC.

During opening remarks, Dr Singh extended appreciation, on behalf of President Irfaan Ali and the Government of Guyana, to the Deputy Secretary of State at the U.S. Department of State, Christopher Landau, and his team for facilitating this important event and for their active ongoing engagement and continued support. He also commended the BCIU for their work in organising and arranging this valuable forum.

The Finance Minister also used the opportunity of the forum to emphasise that Guyana considers its relationship with the U.S. to be special, rooted not only in shared values but also in shared interests.

He further underscored that the U.S. remains Guyana’s largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the country’s leading trade partner. Over the last decade, bilateral trade between the two nations exceeded $25 billion USD, with more than half of that occurring in the last two years alone.

Looking to the future, Minister Singh reiterated that President Irfaan Ali and his Government remain committed to strengthening and expanding Guyana’s partnership with the U.S., including through deeper investment, trade, and commercial ties. Emphasised that we would like more U.S. companies to invest in Guyana, and to do business in Guyana and with Guyana and Guyanese companies.

Guyana’s delegation attending the forum also included Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Robert Persaud; Guyana’s Ambassador to the U.S., H.E. Samuel Hinds; Chief Investment Officer of Go-Invest, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop; Counsellor in the Caribbean Executive Director’s Office at the Inter-American Development Bank, Ms. Navita Anganu-Ramroop; and Advisor to the Embassy of Guyana in Washington DC, Mr. Wazim Mowla.
