$1.558t budget presented – Stabroek News
-growth projected at 16.2% this year
In a more than six-hour presentation yesterday in the National Assembly at the Arthur Chung Confren-ce Centre at Liliendal, Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh unveiled a $1.558t budget without new taxes.
The budget is “anchor-ed” in a longstanding stra-tegic framework that predates Guyana’s oil discoveries, and has been titled “putting people first”.
Singh, outlined the macroeconomic and fiscal targets for 2026, projecting “strong economic growth, low inflation, a surplus on the balance of payments”.
Presenting the Government’s outlook, Singh said the real gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to grow by 16.2 percent in 2026, driven primarily by continued expansion in the oil and gas sector and sustained dynamism in the non-oil economy, which is forecast to grow by 10.8 percent.
“Going forward, Guyana’s real economic growth is expected to remain strong, reflecting the pro-growth policies of our government and the supportive policy frameworks we have put in place,” Singh said.
