US made another extradition request in November – Witness tells Mohameds hearing
Cross-examination of prosecution witness and Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Sharon Roopchand-Edwards continued today in the ongoing extradition proceedings involving the Mohamed father-and-son duo before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Edwards testified that the ministry handled more than one extradition request during the relevant period. Under questioning by defence attorney Siand Dhurjon, she confirmed that in addition to the October 30, 2025 request submitted by the United States for the Mohameds, the ministry received another extradition request for a different individual. When asked how many additional requests were received, she replied, “One,” and confirmed it was received on November 26, 2025.
The case concerns a challenge by Nazar Mohamed and Azruddin Mohamed against an extradition request by the United States. The father and son are accused of matters related to gold trading their legal team contends that this move by the government is one that is political in nature
The proceedings are ongoing, with Magistrate Latchman presiding over the matter with the next date scheduled for February 9 2026.
