Norton not budging on presidential candidate -sources

-deal unlikely between PNCR and AFC

With tomorrow being the deadline for an opposition coalition,  prospects have faded considerably as PNCR Leader Aubrey Norton is insisting that he will be the presidential candidate despite disagreement by the AFC and attempts to introduce a consensus candidate.

Sources say the furthest that the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) has gone is to offer the Alliance For Change’s (AFC’s)  Juretha Fernandes the position of Prime Ministerial candidate with Norton as the presidential candidate. The AFC does not believe that Norton at the top of the ticket will give a coalition the chance of defeating the PPP/C at the upcoming elections.

Sources say that the only leeway Norton has given was that he would only budge if both sides agreed to former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge, as the presidential candidate. That is a non-starter as Greenidge is apparently not interested in such a position.
