Cuban national shot dead in Queenstown; 1 arrested – INews Guyana
A Cuban national, 23-year-old Dainier Vegas Infante of Alexander Village, Georgetown, was fatally shot early this morning.
The incident occurred around 05:45 hours at a business establishment on Foreshaw Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, where the now-dead man was employed as a janitor.
Based on police reports, the deceased was at the business establishment when four males arrived in the vicinity. One of the suspects, who was armed with a handgun, reportedly approached two men who were seated outside of the establishment and engaged them in conversation.
It is alleged that the deceased subsequently exited the establishment and approached the suspects, during which the armed suspect discharged a round in his direction, causing him to fall to the ground.
The armed suspect then entered a motor vehicle and made good his escape along Foreshaw Street, while the other suspects also fled the scene in separate vehicles.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor on duty. His body was later escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
According to the police, through coordinated efforts and the use of the Guyana Police Force Command Centre, a motor vehicle linked to the incident was identified and intercepted, and a 45-year-old female manager of Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara, was arrested and is presently in police custody. The vehicle has since been seized and is being processed as part of the investigation.
CCTV footage is presently being reviewed as investigations continue.
