Press Release: Government Launches “Eldorado Reimagined,” Unveils First-Ever Locally Minted Independence Gold Medallion
On May 22, 2026, the Government of Guyana officially launched the country’s national gold and jewellery brand under the brand name “Eldorado Reimagined”, marking a historic milestone in the transformation of the country’s gold sector, moving from raw commodity production to value-added manufacturing and craftsmanship.
The landmark event, hosted in conjunction with celebrations of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary, also featured the unveiling of the country’s first-ever minted in country Independence commemorative gold medallion, produced entirely in Guyana, by Guyanese, using 100% locally sourced gold.
The evening brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the mining and jewellery sectors, and private sector stakeholders in a national celebration of Guyana’s evolving gold story.
Speaking at the launch, His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali described the initiative as a defining moment in Guyana’s economic and cultural development noting that “tonight represents more than the launch of a brand. It represents Guyana taking ownership of its story, its resources, and its future. For generations, our gold largely left these shores as a raw commodity. Today, we are demonstrating to the world that Guyana is capable of refining, manufacturing, and exporting excellence.”
President Ali further stated that the launch of Eldorado Reimagined reflects Guyana’s ambition to position itself as a globally recognised hub for high-quality gold products and jewellery manufacturing. “This initiative is about creating value within Guyana, expanding opportunities for our people, supporting local craftsmanship, and building an internationally respected Guyanese gold identity.”
Also speaking at the event, Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, said the launch signalled the beginning of a new chapter for the country’s gold industry. He emphasized that “Eldorado Reimagined is the result of a deliberate national vision to move Guyana beyond extraction and into value creation. This brand represents quality, authenticity and national pride. It is about reshaping the narrative of Guyanese gold and ensuring that more of the value generated from our natural resources remains within our country.”
Minister Bharrat also highlighted the significance of the commemorative medallion as a historic national artefact.“This medallion is not simply a collectible. It is a symbol of Guyana’s progress and advancements in the sector. The fact that the gold was mined and refined in Guyana, the product was designed in Guyana, and for the first time, a commemorative medallion was minted in Guyana using Guyanese gold makes this an extraordinary achievement for our country.”
The commemorative medallion, struck in one troy ounce of .999 fine gold, was produced as a limited-edition piece to commemorate Guyana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Each medallion bears an individual serial number and reflects the craftsmanship capabilities emerging within the local sector. The event also featured a
jewellery exhibition showcasing the work of local jewellers and manufacturers, organised in partnership with the Guyana Jewellers Association.
Representing the Association, Vice Chairman Vead Persaud described the partnership as an important step forward for the local jewellery industry. Mr. Persaud described the evening as providing “an important platform for Guyanese jewellers to showcase their talent, creativity, and craftsmanship alongside a national initiative of this magnitude. The Guyana Jewellers Association is proud to partner in this historic launch and to support the continued development of a stronger, more structured, and internationally competitive jewellery sector.”
The exhibition also featured participation from the Guyana Mining School, highlighting emerging talent and the future of jewellery craftsmanship and technical development within Guyana. The launch of “Eldorado Reimagined” forms part of Guyana’s broader effort to establish a modern, regulated, and globally competitive gold and jewellery industry capable of generating increased economic value, employment, investment, and international recognition for Guyanese-made products.
